There is no required subscriber work component to the CSA. However there are activities   shareholders can participate in if they are interested.

Read and comment on the blog – I will blog about the hives and every blogger loves readers and comments.

Paint a hive box –  I generally use leftover light colored exterior latex paint on the boxes rather traditional white. I can give you the box and some paint and you and your kids can go wild. Any designs, pictures, writing( keep it G rated) or colors are perfectly OK. The only requirement is that the box colors not end up too dark as this will be too hot for the bees.

Name a Queen – Every colony contains a  queen and thousands of workers . The queen will need a name so we will know what hive we are talking about. There will be a little naming contest so shareholders have  a chance to name the queens.

Help Extract Honey – kids can help or observe too, but only a limited number of people will fit in the extractor room each time, but . There will be a few food safety rules I’ll require you follow  but this should be suitable for anyone except very young children. If your old enough to keep your fingers out of the honey your old enough to be in the extraction room.

Help on Distribution Day – If you enjoy schmoozing on a late summer afternoon with your fellow CSA members. This is for you.

Observe the working of a hive – This is an educational experience rather than a job. I will require you to wear a bee suit and understand the risks. This is an activity for adults.

Help wrapping the hives for winter. Requires wearing a bee suit, but far less bee contact witbees than in the  in warm weather.  Adults only,  must wear protective suit.

Write an entry for the blog – Suitable for anyone old enough to write , draw a picture or take a  photo. or share a recipe. There’s no need for it to be fancy or polished. It just needs to be bee, honey or apiculture related.
